Diapering_: Diaper Sprayer

diaper sprayerThanks to Leann & Molly for this Frugal Baby Tip!

Leann said: A diaper sprayer is best for this kind of poop. I use my shower head which easily reaches the toilet, and I find it works best when set for hot water. It literally breaks up the poop and it drains into the toilet. I don't know if a hot setting is an option on a diaper sprayer connected to the toilet - probably not.

Molly said: We ended up getting a sprayer. I didn't want to spend the money on the expensive "diaper sprayers", so we got a power sprayer from Home Depot for only $17. It attaches to the shower (our shower is next to the toilet) and works great! We can use it to wash the dogs, clean the tub, etc. I think it's much more versatile than the diaper sprayers and cheaper, too!

Baby Wipes_: Wipes recipes/sandalwood

Thanks to Tammy for this Frugal Baby Tip!

I asked about the sandalwood, and I did try it, but I don't measure anymore....

1 squirt Almond Dr Bronner's, a few drops Weleda calendula baby oil, 2-3 drops sandalwood, and 1 drop rose oil. It is heavenly!

Here are a few more combos I like:
Almond Dr Bronners
tea tree oil- 1 drop
ylang-ylang 2-3 drops
sunflower baby oil

Baby mild Dr Bronners
Burt's Bees baby oil
aloe
geranium or bergamot oil 2-3
tea tree oil 1 drop
rose oil 1 drop

I keep the ratios the same and I make pretty small amounts every other day. I use a baby wipes container, put the ingredients in, top off with hot water, swish it around to mix it up and put my wipes in on top to soak it up. When I use the aloe, I mix it with a wand mixer... it gets pretty foamy, though. I haven't tried the ylang-ylang with the sandalwood, but I'm off to experiment now.

Miscellaneous_: Natural Bug Spray

Thanks to Wendy for this Frugal Baby Tip!

I use the peppermint Dr Bronner's as a natural bug spray. I swear it works. If I find ants in the kitchen or something, I kill them and wash the area with Dr. B's and they *don't* come back.

I just squirt some on a sponge directly from the bottle and wipe the area and rinse it well. I *have* heard of people diluting it and putting it in a spray bottle and actually spraying with it, but I don't do that.

Baby Wipes_: Two Wipe Recipes

Johnsons Baby OilThanks to Julie for this Frugal Baby Tip!

Here is the recipe I use now:
2 1/2 cups warm water (distilled is best, but I'm lazy)
2 teaspoons castille soap or baby shampoo
1 tablespoon baby oil
2 drops tea tree oil
3-5 drops lavender oil

Here's another recipe:

2 1/2 cups warm water
2 teaspoons almond castille soap
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
2 drops tea tree oil
2-3 drops ylang ylang

I think the Tea Tree oil is still neccessary to keep in from getting funky.

Diaper Washing_: Clothesline

hanging laundryThanks to Heather for this Frugal Baby Tip!

I bought my drying rack at Wal-mart for $7.99. If you can't use a clothes line because of neighborhood restrictions you might want to try what I did. I bought a retractable clothes line at ACE Hardware and hung it on my deck railing, I only have it extended when I am using it.

Plus nobody else can see my dipes because they hang below the deck railing.
