I just got my very first period since Keely was born on Christmas Eve day (fun wow, but I *always* get it on Christmas) anyway, I had been considering using cloth pads for awhile, ever since we first discussed it on this list and I was going to make some in preparation for it but never got around to it.

I started off by using my old system of a tampon and minipad (I had forgotten how to use the tampon) but then I decided to go for it and just use cloth. I had been given a free sample of an Imse Vimse pad from Cecilia (list member) so I started with it. It is two layers of flannel, and 8" square. I folded it in thirds and my underwear held it in place. After that I dug into my daughters diapers lol. I have some homemade absorbent inserts that are two layers of flannel, they are 16"x6". I folded them in 1/2 lengthwise and then in 1/2 widthwise. I didn't have any leaks, but I'm lucky that I have a light flow.

As far as cleaning them, I soaked them in cold water in a bucket under the sink (in a locked cabinet) and then I washed them with the diapers. They didn't stain. I will use these again next month, they were so comfortable! I didn't even feel them there.

This from a woman who didn't even know that cloth diapers existed a few years ago. I used disposables on my son 5 years ago, Keely is my only cloth diapered baby so far. Even my MIL who is thrilled with me using cloth diapers thinks I'm weird for using cloth pads lol, she used Kotex from the beginning (how long have they been around?)
